The photo at right was taken in 2011 after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. Ninety-five percent of buildings in the central business district were destroyed, declared unsafe, or subsequently demolished.

The earthquake photo on our home page was taken in Port au Prince, Haiti, in 2010.  At least 220,000 people are believed to have died in the 7.0 magnitude quake.
