Accounting Technician Amber Barnstead
1. Describe your job.
I am the Accounting Technician for Dublin San Ramon Services District’s Utility Billing and Customer Service Division. My division is responsible for generating and preparing utility bills that are accurate and arrive to our customers on time. We issue over 13,000 bills every month!2. What do you like best about your job?
Working for a special district like Dublin San Ramon Services District means that I am providing an important service to the community. I enjoy knowing that my work is contributing to something positive.3. How did you get into the industry?
I studied Political Science at Sonoma State University because I knew that I wanted to work in the public sector. My first position in the water industry was working in Utility Billing and Customer Service for the City of Pleasanton’s Public Works Department. There I would help residents with all kinds of issues – from water leaks, to fallen trees, to broken streetlights. It kept things interesting because I never knew what the challenge of that day was going to be.I didn’t think that I was a “numbers person” before working in Utility Billing, but I ended up finding a passion for it. I began working for Dublin San Ramon Services District last summer as a Utility Billing & Customer Service Representative but was promoted to Accounting Technician in less than a year.
